MAKE THE ORDINARY EXTRAORDINARY - 5 STEPS TO YOUR 9 TO 5 PILGRIMAGE

For most of us, if we are fortunate, might only have the opportunity to make a pilgrimage once a year.

Life’s busy isn’t it?

So how can we make space for God during our busy lives without having to save up, take a weeks holiday or spend a day travelling to a holy place?

Here is an inspirational guide on how to experience God’s Kingdom through your regular working day!

1. Turn your phone off and leave it at home.

Ok, this is a scary prospect, but you’re going to have a great sense of freedom and allow God time to speak to you. Set your voicemail to say that you’re unavailable today, and that you’ll get back to people the following day. Finally, don’t worry. The world survived just fine before smart phones existed.

2. Pick up your bible and begin reading it.

Each time you want to reach for your phone throughout the day, it’s time to read some scripture. “Man does not live by bread alone, but . . . by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord” (Deuteronomy 8:3; Matthew 4:4). Our souls are designed to be nourished by God’s “precious and very great promises” (2 Peter 1:4).]

3. Walk to work (or get off the bus early).

Walking gives us time to reflect. That’s why people walk thousands of miles just to get a sense of perspective. Use this time alone to listen to God and invite Him to reveal what’s really going on in your heart. Then give it to Him.

4. Fast.

You’ve already given up your phone - good job! Now you can choose to give up something else. It might be a meal, reading the newspaper or surfing the net. Give to God something that has a hold on your life, whether it’s big or small. Make sure it’s achievable! Get ready to hear God in a new way.

5. Go to Mass.

So your day has been far from normal and you have already experienced the presence of God through the simple steps you have made towards Him. Now it’s time to encounter Him through the supernatural, most intimate of ways. Is there a Church close to your work or home that has an evening Mass? Go to it!

Ready to try it?

Let us know how you get on :)
